Is your data team delivering Products or are they delivering Services?

How do your stakeholders contact the team when they need data and information to support an action and achieve a business outcome?

Do they contact the team with the Job to be Done?

Or do they contact the the team wth a data request?

If the data work enters your Information Value Stream on the left, if they bring you the problem to be solved, then you can adopt Product Management patterns and practices on the left hand side of the cycle, before you move onto delivery.

You can understand the problem, ideate possible solutions, discovery if those solutions are valuable and feasible, before you start writing a line of code or configuring your YAML file.

If they enter it on the right with a data request, move them to the left.

That way you can deliver Data Products, not Data Services.
